Looking for a place to surf, eat or just chillax? See below Published September 7, 2006 College students are back in town. We asked staff writers to give students some suggestions on where to hang out in Spartanburg. Here are their picks: "I was really surprised to learn that Tuesday is the busiest night for the Nu-Way Restaurant and Lounge on Kennedy Street. Maybe it's the Gypsy Souls' soulful covers that bring everyone out of their weekday shells, or the really curly hair of one of the guitarists. For me, it's the smell of the really nice incense (I still haven't figured out if it comes from the bar or the band) that makes me feel as if I'm in some exotic locale rather than in the middle of Spartanburg. There's no better way to procrastinate on a school night!" -- Monica Mercer, county government reporter "If you want to unwind after class or during mid-term exams, head to Body and Soul of Spartanburg. Body and Soul offers yoga and massage therapy and "Bliss 101," a course designed to reduce stress. For more information, go to www.mybodyandsoul.com " -- Kim Kimzey, features reporter "If you're looking for a spot to get good food until 1:30 on a Saturday night, TNT Hot Wings is your place. "Most late-night spots in town are selling the usual fast food or breakfast food, but you can go to TNT and get chicken wings for that late-night gathering of friends or to satisfy your individual hunger. The restaurant has 10 flavors of chicken wings, and not all of them are spicy. You can order six to 40 wings for $3.95 to $20. If you're not in the mood for wings, you can get burgers, hot dogs, ribs, fish or a couple of Caribbean dishes. "The restaurant's owner, Terrance Tyson, earned his rep for cooking chicken wings while in college. The restaurant is located at 405 John B. White Sr. Blvd. and the phone number is 585-9996. The Web site is http://tnthotwings.com ." -- Dudley Brown, features reporter "Whether you need Wi-Fi, a caffeine boost or just a place to get away from your roommate, check out Cross Roads Coffee off Main Street near Wild Wing. The employees are really nice and won't give you the evil eye if you stay awhile. The music and drinks are good, and the eavesdropping potential is even better." -- Bevin Hutcheson, copy editor "If I were in college and collecting that phat student loan check every semester, I'd try to spend as much of it as possible on pool and beer. You can do both at the Break Room, so it would probably be a good place to start. "Then you could stagger next door to Papa's Breakfast Nook for some French toast. When I had to study, I'd head to Little River Roasting Co.'s cafe, where you can see and smell the coffee beans getting toasted as you bang out that 12-pager on Mahatma Gandhi. I'd then try to weasel some extra credit from my professor by using civil disobedience to get Little River to stay open past 6 p.m." -- Alex Morrison, business writer http://www.goupstate.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060907/NEWS/609070369&SearchID=73269538535345
